Please allow us to clarify a few things regarding our approach and traditional or mainstream Christian Counseling.  We realize that there may be some confusion even in our name, "CrossCounsel".   We have thought about changing the name many times.  We have not for two main reasons.  First, the name does have some recognition.  Second, we rely fully on the role of the Holy Spirit to be one's "Counselor" at CCIM.

We value the benefit that traditional Christian counseling may have in a person's life.  However, some have mistakenly seen Christian Counselors or Psychologists as "being the in BIG LEAGUES" and CrossCounsel as a bunch of sandlot players (amateurs who do this as a neat little hobby or ministry).  

The truth is that often we are not even "playing the same game".  We can't speak for all counseling approaches.  Therefore, we won't make any blanket statements that might be misconstrued.  Though we are not professional counselors, we always seek to present ourselves professionally.  And if there is such a thing as a professional prayer minister, we have Rev. Steve Freitag as one with many more to follow in the future.

Our History

CrossCounsel was established in 1996 by two people interested in having people set free by the power of the Cross, the Exchanged Life available in Jesus Christ and the establishment of believers walking in the Truth of God's Word empowered by the Holy Spirit.  The main approach used was traditional Biblical Counseling.

Our ministry, as well as our lives, were dramatically changed with the introduction of Theophostic Prayer Ministry®  (TPM) in 1997.  Those things that we highly valued from the beginning became more attainable through TPM.  Theophostic, meaning "God's Light", took our ministry to a whole new level.  We moved from simply being cognitive in our approach to actually experiencing in our hearts what Scripture says about our faith - free indeed!

CrossCounsel has been at the forefront of this powerful move of God.  Rev. Steve Freitag joined us in 2000 and has been our Executive Director since 2003.  Steve has tens of thousands of hours of experience ministering Christ’s healing to hurting people, and has spent thousands of hours teaching others to do the same.

2006 brought CrossCounsel to the forefront of the international scene in TPM.  We were asked to give a presentation at the TPM International Convention in Florida.  This has birthed relationships with ministries literally all over the country and globe in 2007 to the present.

2008 saw us take a huge step forward as we sought and acquired our own status as a non-profit organization.  This gave us more freedom, credibility and opportunities.  This led to our biggest step of faith since 2000.  In April of 2009, we made the commitment to our current office space in Madison.  

Our ministry continues to grow and gain momentum.  We look forward to all that is to come in 2010 and beyond.
