Who Can Benefit?

Though your path may not include Theophostic Prayer Ministry, it is our belief that everyone this side of heaven is in need of transformation.  We simply believe that this is the best of many tools we’ve found in being intentional and focused in attaining that transformation.

As you decide whether or not to pursue ministry at CrossCounsel, consider this:

  • Jesus said that it is easier to see the speck in another’s eye rather than the log in our own eye (Matt 7:3).  Ouch… We all must come to realize that we all are in the process of needing our hearts and minds renewed.
  • Ask yourself, “Is this is good as it gets?  Can you imagine that Jesus can and wants to do a deeper work in you?  What would that look like for your life, your relationships, your perspective on the world we live in?”
  • All of us are a work in progress.  We at CrossCounsel continue to see God transform our own lives.  It has not just challenged our theology; it has changed every minute of our lives.  The same can happen for you.

We are also battling the false premise that people are divided into two groups: the ones who help others and the ones who need help. Spiritual growth, emotional healing and mind renewal are opportunities for all of us.  God desires to bring truth and freedom to all of us.  The more we take a look at how we operate inside, the more we begin to understand how much work the Lord wants to do in us.

Christians often talk about “walking in the Spirit” but struggle in its meaning.  As we allow the Lord to do His work in us, we experience “perfect peace” (Jesus’ Spirit) in areas that have in the past only known turmoil (insecurities, fear, anger, loneliness, addictions, criticisms, etc).  Instead of being quenched by lies, sin and grief, His Spirit is released in us --- resulting in living and walking with the Spirit.

We also encourage bringing someone with you to be in the office as a prayer partner / intercessor.  We do sometimes have a person in training that will be present.  Please let us know if that is a problem for you.

Taken from Kevin Bidwel, Christianity Today:

Conventional Christian therapists are making some use of Theophostic. Paul Meier, co-founder of New Life Clinic in Dallas, calls Theophostic ministry "a helpful part of a long-term process of growth and discipleship." Mark Verkler, one of Meier's New Life colleagues in Dallas, also supports Theophostic ministry. "I was skeptical at first—it sounded too good to be true—but have found it remarkably effective."

Neil Anderson's latest book, Christ-Centered Therapy (Zondervan, 2000), features Theophostic in one of the chapters, "The Counseling Assistance Tool Kit." Mark Bubeck, who wrote The Adversary, inner-healing teachers John and Paula Sanford, and Charles Kraft of Fuller Theological Seminary have supported Theophostic methods in varying ways.

Pastoral Referrals

"I've enthusiastically referred people to CrossCounsel since the year 2000.  This has resulted in what our church believes in: people personally experiencing the NOWNESS of God.

He is present, personal, relevant and active in our lives. He heals, delivers, and brings Truth to our deepest hurts and messed up thinking.  Jesus brings freshness into our relationship with Him and others while also freeing us from countless struggles, lies, addictions, and depression."  --- Shane Holden, Lead Pastor, Damascus Road Church, Madison, WI www.damascusroadchurch.com

"CrossCounsel has been a blessing to us at Mad City Church.  They have worked with several people through personal ministry, a Focus Group, teaching at our Prayer Intensive and Sunday Morning Messages by Steve Freitag."  --- Joel Alberti, Pastoral Care, Mad City Church, Madison, WI www.madcitychurch.com
