Post Session

Before You Read Anything Else
Romans chapter 12 and years of experience have taught us something critical.
Lasting and genuine transformation is an ongoing experience and process for a Christ-follower. It is not something that you fully achieve this side of heaven. But you can have specific victories in certain areas of your life.

We can't recommend strongly enough this sermon from Dr. Ed Smith. It is rich with hope, truth and will further explain our philosophy at CrossCounsel.

Assessing Your Engagement in the MELT Process

Simply coming in to talk might feel good, but it doesn’t deal with the root issues nor bring about genuine change.  Genuine change happens when people choose to enter into this process fully.

Over-simplified description of engagement in MELT Process: Did you close your eyes, feel your present emotion, choose to let go of the current circumstances and connect back to historical pain and memory? Were you able to, from that "younger you" perspective, identify the twisted beliefs of identity and / or state of being? Were you ready to forego your adult intellectual knowledge and invite the Lord to bring His perspective?

If you did not engage in the MELT process, then know that it is unlikely that you will have experienced lasting change.

We do understand that some people need the first session to be a time to get to know us. That is fine, but please keep expectations to a minimum if this is the case.

If You Fully Engaged IN the MELT Process and...

Feel Little Change:
For some who engage in the process, it may feel like very little has occurred in the first session. Several of us have established highly functioning defense systems (even if unaware of it) and those defenses make take time to move past. Be encouraged that we've found that even exposing some of these defenses is significant progress. It also may take days or weeks to uncover what's really going on inside them and what the Lord has done in their heart. One person actually called from his car five minutes after his session. He said, "The light just went on in my head. I had to call to tell you I now know God's love for me in that memory!"

Feel Worse than Before: In some cases, you may actually feel worse as layers of denial start to break down. This is normal. God has given us the ability to survive painful experience by the ability to file away the pain in our minds. While that is helpful in the moment, when left unresolved it creates a problem.

Engaging in this process is
counterintuitive to our defenses. This conflict is not enjoyable to experience, but it exposes areas where the Lord wants to bring truth and healing. "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." - Hebrews 12:11.

Feel Great: Fantastic. Enjoy it. But also know that God loves you so much He wants to continue to get at every area of pain, frustration and immaturity in your life. Keep pressing into Him. Be aware of triggering situations. Ask the Lord to help you identify more false beliefs. Share the peace you've received with supportive friends and family. Keep on track with pursuing God's heart for you. Remember, this is a journey, not a sprint and coming to CrossCounsel at least 3-5 times early on will be of great benefit not only to you, but to God's Kingdom and purposes.

It’s our hope that you experience continuous healing after your session; more may have happened than you initially thought.

For Everyone

If you engaged in the process, you may be surprisingly more aware of reactions you have to triggering situations. When possible, make time to focus on the emotions involved. Ask the Lord to help you discover your history with this emotion.  Find the earliest memory, and allow the intensity of it to surface. Discover the false beliefs imbedded there.  When you are ready and willing, simply ask the Lord to give you His perspective and truth regarding the lies there. We can check out those memories at your next appointment.

We encourage you to seek out and participate in a positive Christ-centered support group, care group, or bible study, etc if you are not already doing so, as we do not provide additional support outside of our offices or ministry meeting place.
